Suffering. It’s something we don’t enjoy thinking about. What about pain, hardship, difficulty, or sacrifice? Consciously or not, we tend to avoid these things like the plague, a tendency inherited from our 21st century American culture. The irony is that God calls us to embrace them. Why? Because it’s what Jesus did. Jesus set the example for us and embraced suffering with joy – because it was the Father’s will.
